FOUR TURNOVERS, A CONTROVERSIAL SPOT, AND A 5-0 NINERS TEAM — THE SEAHAWKS DID THIS TO THEMSELVES!

10/12/2026

Seattle had the game. They had Dre Greenlaw ejected in the second quarter. They had home field. They had a lead. Then they fumbled it — literally — four times over. And the call at the end? Even Cooper Kupp admits it might have been right. Let's start with the facts, because they're brutal enough without embellishment. The Seahawks committed four turnovers, and the 49ers scored 21 points off those turnovers, all in the first half. Renardo Green picked off Sam Darnold twice. A late second-quarter fumble was recovered by rookie Gracen Halton in the end zone for a San Francisco touchdown. A team that ejected one of its most important linebackers in the second quarter should not have scored 21 points off you before halftime. Seattle battled back from a 21-13 halftime deficit and actually carried a 26-21 lead late in the third quarter. The Seahawks' offense showed up when it mattered — Jason Myers hit five field goals, including kicks from 49, 50, 43, 48 and 40 yards. They fought. They competed. They almost stole it back. Then came the final play. Facing fourth-and-10 with their hopes of extending the game on the line, the Seahawks turned to Cooper Kupp, who appeared to make a remarkable effort to reach the first-down marker along the sideline. Officials ruled that Kupp had stepped out of bounds before reaching the necessary yardage, turning the ball over to San Francisco. The effort from Kupp was extraordinary — the veteran receiver extended the football toward the marker, trying to squeeze every possible inch out of a play. The question was whether Kupp had already stepped out of bounds before the ball crossed the line to gain. Officials determined he had. The call stood after a booth review. NFL Vice President of Instant Replay Mark Butterworth explained it in a pool report: the proper spot is where the ball is when it breaks the plane of the sideline. The angles were difficult. Kupp slid toward the sideline and tried to extend the football, but all the horizontal angles of the play made it difficult to tell if the ball crossed the marker before or after it was over the sideline. Seahawks legend Richard Sherman had his take: "What a game! I think they got that last call wrong. Ref assumed he stepped out, but he didn't, and you can't tell where the ball crossed the plane, but it looked like a first down. Wish they would have gotten that one right." But here's where we give the facts their due. Kupp himself said after the game: "I knew it was close, but yeah, clearly it was short. So, just not enough there, and you've got to find a way to get that fourth down." And when Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald was asked about the play? "I don't know," Macdonald said. Later: "They said he was short, so we've got to live with it." The evidence is genuinely inconclusive. The call was reviewed and upheld by the league's own explanation. We won't tell you it was definitively wrong — because it may not have been. We WILL tell you that if the NFL used the digital ball-tracking technology already common in international soccer, this conversation would be over in seconds. With comprehensive digital mapping, it would be possible to know exactly where the ball was when it crossed the sideline. We saw it during the World Cup. The NFL has yet to incorporate technology into the ball itself. In 2026. With billions in revenue. They're still guessing with eyeballs on millimeter calls. But Seattle fans — before you direct all your rage at the officials — remember: only 11 of San Francisco's 32 points didn't come off a Seattle turnover. You can't give a 5-0 team four turnovers and expect to win. Dre Greenlaw got ejected and you still couldn't hold the lead. The call at the end might have been wrong. Or it might have been right. What's not in dispute is that Seattle handed San Francisco the foundation of this win three plays at a time. 💬 WTF QUESTION FOR SEAHAWKS FANS: Did the refs rob Seattle on the Kupp spot call? Or did the Seahawks beat themselves with four turnovers before it even came down to that? And with the 49ers going 5-0, is the NFC West window already closing in Seattle? Rant away.
